The 'Bournemouth Jazz Orchestra', one of the finest big bands in the Solent area of the South of England. It comprises of 16 of the most talented and experienced big band and jazz musicians in the area, with members having worked with some of England's best orchestras, along with stars from stage and screen. Directed by trumpet player, Tony Waller, the 'BJO' (instead of playing as a rehearsal band in the back room of a pub) perform once a month raising money for good causes, mostly school music departments. The motto of the Bournemouth Jazz Orchestra 'Unplugged' gigs is: ''You don't pay to get in, but you pay to get out!'' That way, the concerts are affordable to everyone, and in the first year of 'Unplugged' concerts, over £5000 was raised for good causes.

Membership of the 'Friends of the Bournemouth Jazz Orchestra' is now over 100 strong, and continues to grow. Membership is free, with a quarterly newsletter being emailed to members.
